Crossreach June 2019 Update

June run was very successful with a couple of welcome new faces helping out. 50 bags delivered which included insect lotions and a few solar powered lanterns. The latter proving invaluable to most of our recipients who have no power. The solar lanterns provide up to 17 hours of continuous light and can be recharged in ordinary light without leaving them in the sunshine where they could be stolen.

Madlyn Pierre: another of our single mothers with 5 children. She reached out to us on our last Crossreach run with a plea for help….no source of income, lives in Garden Villas with a leaking roof, no power and no food on the table. They were sponsored to attend VBS at our church all last week and evidently enjoyed the experience as well as the lunch and snacks!

Now we need to plan how we can help on a continuing basis.

Kelly’s Donation: A lovely surprise was a call from Kelly’s saying they were en-route with a van full of items for Crossreach.

A beautiful collection of necessities most of which went directly into the waiting bags.

Nekemea Jones: Continues to struggle with her 4 sons, 2 of whom are severely disabled.

Although she does receive some help from Social Services, she has a real struggle daily to cover her expenses and feed her children. Mario & Nekino cannot digest solid food and therefore have special dietary needs plus size 6 diapers constantly. Thanks to a supporter we were able to pay for her trip to Cost Right.
